I have quite a bit invested in the DeWalt 20V Max product line. I own 6 batteries and this drill will be my 7th DeWalt cordless tool. All of the tools have worked flawlessly for me the last several years.I have used the brushless drill + driver kit for 3 years, but have had several situations where I need to use two different drill bits on a project, so this drill will help in those situations. I can keep the two drills setup with two different bits and not have to constantly switch between the bits.This drill is very similar in size, shape, and operation to my other (brushless) drill. This model is not brushless, so compared to my older drill, there is a very noticeable difference in the motor, how it sounds, feels, and responds to movement in the trigger. And in this model, you can see the sparks from the brushes and feel some heat from the motor after a few minutes of use. But it’s very smooth, very powerful, and actually easier to modulate the speed of the drill than the brushless model, if that is something you value.The downside to this brushed model is that it isn’t nearly as efficient as the brushless, resulting in shorter battery life. I don’t typically need to use my drill or driver for long periods, so I’ve never had an issue with draining the 20V max batteries.I did some quick tests drilling holes with a relatively large forstner bit, and also drove some drywall screws. It handled both with ease, as expected.It is nice that this model is available as a bare tool, so if you have plenty of batteries and don’t need the impact driver in a kit, this is a handy option to save some money.And one unexpected feature that was nice to see: this drill has a Made in USA sticker on it. I was pleasantly surprised to see that, and don’t recall seeing the sticker on any of my other DeWalt tools.
