Was recommended this type of product by a hinge company, National/Stanley. It does do the job nicely, but of course you need to match the diameter of the end with the hinge hole, and the fit should be snug, not loose. You also need to drill straight in, level or plumb. This product can’t drill the hole straight unless you do. What is does do is to ensure that the hole you drill will be centered in the hinge hole.I would like a 4-piece set with another hinge bit one size larger to fit the holes in an 8″ hinge, which accommodates 5/16″ lag screws. The largest one in this set, the 9/16″ still leaves a little wiggle room in the hole.

About $10 cheaper than the similar Bosch product, chrome finish rather than black. The springs in this set sit on the edge of the base and can catch in the threads when screwing the top on, causing the top part to become misaligned. With some care, this problem can be avoided. The springs in the Bosch version version seat inside the base and so don’t interfere with the threads. Also the replaceable bits in this set are closer to standard drill bits in length, while the Bosch drill bits are shorted than normal. That may be to allow access to smaller spaces. Despite the spring issue, the price difference still makes this set a good deal.
