The self centering point is spring loaded and it compresses as the cutter digs. But I only made two plugs before the centering point retracted all the way and wouldn’t come back out. So I have to return it next time I go to the store. Maybe mine was a bad batch but it worked wonderfully until the tip got stuck so it no longer centered for me.
