So let me start by saying that if you are looking for a saw that that you will be using on a heavy duty construction project, this is not for you. That being said, it is a good saw for home use as a diy’er.The first thing that stood out to me on this saw was the build most saws (especially at this price range) is constructed mostly of plastic. The problem I had with this saw was they took plastic to a whole new level. The plastic is hard, but I can’t say for sure if it would hold up to a fall on concrete? (hence the heavy duty construction reference) I also noticed that for having so much plastic, it was a bit heavy Weingarten in around 7lbs, which is not that bad for keeping the saw down while cutting. As I started working with this saw, I began liking it more and more. You cane adjust the bevel to 45 degrees, which many of the higher quality saws offer, and the depth adjustment was easy to use, but felt a bit flimsy to me. It also comes with a rip guide that stayed in place nicely even after a few cuts. The major selling factor for a saw to me is power. I can honestly say that I was surprised about how much rip power this saw had. I put out a few 2×4’s and started going to town. Each cut was smooth and level with no bogging down of the motor. There is a bit of vibration whIlet cutting, but not as bad as I thought it might be.As far as it goes for feel in the hads, it’s not that bad. They definitely took an ergonomic approach when building this saw, and the dB lv is not to bad for a saw. The 24 tooth blade that it comes with is marked WEN, but not sure if that is who actually makes it? That being said, it’s sharp and cuts straight as an arrow, and leaves smooth lines.Summary: if this saw was just $5 dollars more, it would have received a 3 star review, but for the price range , I think they did a pretty good job.once again, I would not recommend this for heavy duty construction projects, but for around the house, it will definitely get the job done.
Used it straight out of the box. Minor adjustment for squaring up base plate which I always check my saw before cutting. I also purchased a finer cutting blade for delicate work. I have worked with it for 4 weeks and still cutting square with plenty of power to cut through 2×6 and 4×4 doug fir boards. I was really impressed with the light weight, ergonomically easy for positive control, easy and positive control levers for adjusting depth and angle, and especially the ease that the safety guard allowed for cutting 1/8 inch cuts single handed without using my other hand to hold up the safety guard. Experienced with milwaukee and skill wormdrives but since I am now getting older. I wanted a light weight saw, but still wanted cutting ability and control, which this saw exceeded my expectations. Great product.
The WEN 12 amp 7 1/4 inch sidewinder circular saw is a good tool for making a job go quick. I’ve used this mostly to rip sheets of plywood and cut 2×4 lumber. It has a safety switch and a good front handle. The rip guide has a locking knob and has a bevel clamp knob and guide. Depth guide and rear handle too. Most of my tools are cordless but this is a great help because the cordless version runs out of juice quick where this goes all day.
love it, have used it more than I thought I would have
I am really satisfied with this WEN Circular Saw. A 7 inch saw is the perfect size that I was interested in for my DIY projects. The saw is well made and feels solid despite being mostly constructed of plastic. It exceeded my expectation in terms of build quality, specially considering the price range. It offers the typical features including: Angle Adjustment, Cutting Depth Adjustment, and it also has a Rip Guide to help you cut straight when cutting “lengthwise”. It also has a good safety feature which is a “floating” blade guard, which is a must have on a circular saw. The provided blade appears to be of good quality. This saw has good ergonomics and is the right size and weight. It’s not too heavy to cause fatigue, yet not too light to be flimsy. It packs serious power and should be enough for your DIY projects. I did not try angle cuts but I was able to rip cut a board with good accuracy.I think if you’re a DIYer and looking for a 7″ circular saw, this is a good option to consider. If you do more heavy duty work then you may want to spend more and get something pro grade.
All around good entry level saw to get you started in woodworking. This saw is heavily reliant on plastic which results in a lighter weight, light duty saw. With that said, it is perfect for cutting a 2×4 or sheet of plywood every now and then. Great general purpose tool. I only have these kind of projects a couple of times a year so there is no sense in paying for the pro-grade tool with the pro-grade price tag.
Good product at a great price.
Very light weight, light duty circular saw that you can use for small jobs. I don’t think this circular saw will not last for continuous use. It is easy to change the blade and has easy adjustments for changing the depth of the cut or if you want to make a bevel cut. Also comes with a rip guide the is easy to attach. The motor is only a 12 amp motor and contributes to the lighter weight compared to other saws.
