With 5 different operating speeds, you’ll be able to turn workpieces at 520, 900, 1400, 2150, or 3400 rotations per minute. Excellent overall product, I wish all small parts were metal. Less than a month has gone by and the plastic tool post lever broke. Still usable though.

Very solid and rigid compared to my first lathe that was not solid enough and rigid enough to turn wood logs into bowls . I am very pleased with this lathe . I have made some very nice bowls from a tree I cut down in my backyard. Thanks for a great product .

It is a starter lathe and that is OK, what I needed to get myself oriented with wood turning. I have other Wen products and so far I have had good luck with the performance and quality. I would recommend this product.

Great little lathe! Speed changes are easy and fast, takes less than a minute when you get used to it. Centers lined up perfectly out of the box. Enough power to turn everything I’ve thrown at it. Very smooth, zero vibration and the tail stock and tool test are very sturdy and easy to move.

My main purpose for this lathe is a backup lathe for buffing and painting and it was a good buy.

Being my first time ever touching a lathe, this purchase has been amazing and a great learning situation. For a first time device at this time I find it an incredible tool and easy use.

Basically this is a good lathe for the money. Made of cast iron, it is heavy, doesn’t wobble or jump around unless it is set too fast or you have a very uneven piece on the spindle. The motor does get hot fairly quickly. Adjusting the speed is fairly quick and easy, 4 to 5 min.

In the future I would like to update this review because one does not get to know a new wood lathe overnight. What I have observed so far is impressive. Good weight: 70+ pounds for stability. Size: Large enough for most home projects. With the Live Center in place, I unlocked the Tailstock and slid it toward the Headstock which also had the Spur Center mounted. These two points met exactly (see picture). A toolmaker would want to achieve this level of precision; and this WEN 3424 is ready to deliver accurate turning. It is up to the craftsperson to mark the exact centers of the work piece in order to benefit from this.Reading the specs one will see it comes with the basics plus a Face Plate, Tool Rest, Adjustment Tools, and a handy Accessory Holder.

It’s a game changer folks. It’s not my first lathe, or my first rodeo. All of the conveniences that come on the more expensive lathes are here. Solid construction, and easy to adjust .Comes with a drive spur, and face plate for the head stock, and a live center for the tail-stock. All tools are included for assembly, with the exception of a flat blade screwdriver. My bench-top was not 100% level, but the feet can be turned to level the lathe. The taper is MT2. The head stock threading is 1 inch x 8 tpi. What that means is if you already own a Nova chuck, it will fit right on with no adapter. The tools for the lathe (2 Allen wrenches, drive spur center, live center, and face plate wrench) are stored conveniently on the lathe in a molded holder. All of the hardware locks in place easily. The tool-rest is nearly 8 inches. Doing the math tells you that it covers more than half of your work pieces’ length. The great news is that adjusting the banjo only requires a quarter turn of the handle. If you don’t know what a banjo is, it is the part that holds your tool rest. The 5-speed belt system is awesome. It will save you $100.00+ by not purchasing a variable speed system. If you want this lathe with variable speed, I recommend a rheostat. The motor on this lathe is strong enough for me to turn a 10 -inch plate, and some really deep bowls. The motor does seem to get a bit hot, but only after I give it quite a workout. Great job, Wen, for giving the small shop wood-worker the opportunity to work with a good quality lathe; at a more than reasonable price!

I have not used it much so far, but for a couple times I used it this machine worked very well. I would recommend also purchasing the WEN bench to secure the lathe and to use it at the proper height.
