I bought my DW317 10 yrs ago, very happy with the saw. Its the blades I need direction. Unlike so many my U type blades never fall out, they just break or bend. H/D only has 1 style U blades and there very thin and expensive. Can I use the T style blade for my DW317 work horse? Please advise.
I bought this saw a few months back and I’m so glad I did. It has made projects around the house easier and quicker to accomplish. Switching out blades is an uncomplicated process and the cuts are nice and even. Great tool
very fancy and easy to use great addition to the tool family
Works great! Very pleased with this product! Would have been nice if it came with a couple blades.
Much better than my 30 year old black and decker it replaced. Good control and adjustability help making quality cuts.
So I initially set out to buy the DW317 jigsaw based on using the one at work for about 5 years with multiple users and no issues. My old one had quit and I was going to make up for 15 years of using a subpar Jigsaw. I went to my local Home Depot and checked out the jigsaws in stock and decided I needed one with the sawdust blowing feature. I decided on a blue 6.5amp model with a dust blower. I went home and did some test cuts in my workshop. Now i’m no pro but after doing some strait cuts using a rafters square and some curved cuts freehand I was quite displeased at the amount of blade deflection this unit had. I could not get square cuts in 2X4 material. I inspected the guide wheel and realized there was a lot of play side to side. I just could not get decent results. So back to Home Depot I went to return the saw. Before I left I had to have one more look at the display units. I looked at the guide wheel on the DW317 and played with it a bit and realized it had very little play side to side. I purchased it and took it home . So hears the low-down. The blue saw had a few more features and was a step up from my old saw. The Dewalt DW317 is more compact, has plenty of power and less blade deflection by a fair margin. I was getting very good results on 2X4 material with strait and curved cuts using the exact same blade and techniques. I also found you could clear your cut line if you increase the speed of the motor even though it doesn’t technically have a dust blower. It was also less expensive and has a better warranty. 3 years as opposed to 1 year. This saw is the best bang for your buck in my opinion.
Can’t really rate it as places that sell Dewalt products don’t sell the saw blades. Probably will return it and buy a brand where I can purchase saw blades locally.
I bought mine a few years ago and it has seen my wife and I through many projects without fail. It is easy to operate and it is easy to change the blade for use on various materials.
I bought this in 2012 when my 30+ year old Skil Saw died. The DeWalt has a lot of great features, is comfortable handling, and I love the quick release blade vs. tightening 2 screws on my old saw. The saw has seen a lot of DYI action without any issues. It would have been nice if a fence had been included with the saw.
Bought this saw as my other one quit, got home to finish the job and got the new saw out,,guess what? No blades come with it,a nice bag to put it in but no blades!Guess that’s my fault for not paying attention but you would think they would give you a blade or two.So I guess it’s back to Home Depot to get some blades. If you buy this saw be sure and get some blades to !!
I have had this jig saw for awhile and very happy still with this purchase.
I only purchased this because you didn’t sell a cordless ridged jigsaw. Regardless, its not bad. Its average
Did the job I needed it to
Excellent tool. Smooth and easy to use.
This was just the tool I was looking for to add to my shop.
This Jig Saw is absolutely worth every penny. It cuts extremely smooth and is easier to control due to the weight of the saw. It is a solid piece of equipment and I am very happy with it
Easy to operate and handle various tasks. The variable speed feature is great.
Nice tool. Solidly built, heavy due to metal construction not all plastic. Disappointed that it doesn’t have a light to illuminate the work piece. Every other DeWalt tool I own, and that is many, have a light. I need it more on a jig saw than I do on a drill. I find this annoying.
Light weight easy to use strong performance
Works great. Comes with one blade which is all I need.
