Remember when you were the king of the twist. Now you can make your belt oscillate without ever setting foot on a dance floor with the WEN Oscillating Belt and Spindle Sander. Sand arcs, curves, contours, faces and more of even the most strangely shaped work pieces. This versatile machine acts as both a spindle sander and a belt sander, oscillating up to 58 times per minute with a 5/8 in. stroke. This package includes 5 different spindle sanding sizes (1/2 in., 3/4 in., 1 in., 1-1/2 in. and 2 in.) and one 4 x 24 in. belt. The powerful 3.5 amp motor rotates the various spindles up to 2000 times per minute and the belt up to 1575 ft. per minute. Onboard storage helps to organize all of the throat plates, rubber sanding drums and table inserts included with this sander while the 1-1/2 in. dust port allows woodworkers to connect a dust collection system to minimize clean up. Adjust the table anywhere from 0 to 45° to help take on angled edges and surfaces. This sander also comes with 6-pieces of 80-Grit sandpaper: 1 for the belt and 5 for each respective size spindle diameter. I have had the Wen 6523 for 2 weeks now and have used it about a dozen times – from 3/4″ pine to 1″ walnut to 2″ white oak. It make quick work of the pine and walnut. Understandably, it struggles a bit on the oak but still does a nice job. I’ve sanded straight edges on the belt sander and long gentle curves on the largest spindle. Don’t expect this to compete with a larger floor model OSS, but for the money this is one tough machine. I also want to mention my experience with Wen customer service. I had a problem with the knob that holds down the belt sander. It took several emails and a phone call with one of their representatives, but it was handled to my satisfaction, including a new part. The representative was always prompt with replies and provided excellent advice on the fix. This is the second Wen I’ve bought (the first is a drill press) and so far not at all disappointed.

The choice was between this one and the Rigid model – which is the one I thought I needed due to the larger table on it. I honestly have not even thought about the Rigid model since this one arrived. The Wen is fantastic in every way! Zero regrets, and saved me some money which went toward the purchase of a Wen drill press that also turned out to be very well-made. With the quality you get in this price range, I may be filling my woodworking shop with even more Wen tools.

The sander works great. Shipping was fast and the sander was packed very well. Set up was fast and easy. Once I started to use it, it became very noticable this sander is very noisey. It is allot noisier then the Ridgid it replaced. Another thing that I didn’t notice until I set it up, there is no miter slot on the table. That is quite annoying. It should have one for squaring pieces of your projects. The dust collection port is way too small. It should be 2″ or bigger.Other then those three cons I would say it is a good machine.

This is an inexpensive tool. It appears to be made primarily of injection-molded plastic with some type of cast metal adjustable angle table. Being fairly lightweight it vibrates considerably while in operation and should be bolted down to prevent it from walking off of your work table.If the shaking does not bother you it does seem to do the job. How long it will last is anybody’s guess.
