   These ship auger bits sailed through construction lumber, sheet goods, and 8 inch red oak beams with reckless abandon. I used an old beast of a corded 1/2 drill and an impact wrench with an 7/16 impact socket to drive these bits—with 3/4 getting the most use. Your average 3/8 drill will not accept them and most likely don’t have the torque needed anyway.The holes produced were pretty clean, but not the best. The tear out on the back side was much less than what you get with a spade bit. The long length is a definite plus when trying to drill square and also allows you to go through top and bottom plates and sub-floors with ease. I didn’t cut any nails or screws because that should be a last resort. I’m a fan of the storage wrap that has room to add more augers.They’re longer length and need for a higher torque/slower speed drill means that they won’t replace a good sharp spade bit for me, but they are a welcome addition that does less damage with the toughness needed to power through an obstacle.

   This 3-piece Ship Auger Wood Drilling Bit Set by Milwaukee are great of bits to have handy. They came in very handy a few weeks ago when I installed a gas heating stove in our log cabin. The 18″ auger bit went through the 10 inch logs with no problem and leaving nice clean holes with fast chip removal. The shanks are hardened so you can use them with an impact wrench. They also can handle heavy torque applications The over all length of the bits is 19 inches. The set comes with a 1/2″, 3/4″ and 1″ diameter bit. These bits put spade bits to shame. They will drill a hole soooo much faster then any other type of drill bits. The set comes with a very nice canvas pouch to store them in. These bits are a beast, but a very outstanding beast! If you buy them you will not be sorry.

   I was tired of using flat bits that don’t last very long and so I tried these auger bits instead. What a difference. The auger design requires far less torque on the electric drill and drills the hole about 10 times faster that a flat bit. But best of all, these auger bits last and last – almost forever. Given the opportunity, I will always buy an auger style bit before a flat bit now.

   Ship Auger Wood Drilling Bit Set (3-Piece) review: These drill bits are very impressive. They are long enough to drill to at least 12″ wood. Wow. They are very powerful, expel the wood fragments, and just blow me away with their efficiency. You WILL need a powerful drill to drive these monsters. Put it on low speed and gradually drill. I use a Milwaukee hammer drill (generation three) or the gen3 impact driver and have no trouble removing wood quickly. Love these bits! Typical Milwaukee superior quality. There ya go!

    Don’t know what they at Milwaukee were thinking when they designed this set. If you have the Milwaukee superhawg with the quik chuk the 1/2″ bit is useless without an adapter also not available by Milwaukee. Your better off buying the competitors 1/2″ bit.

    This is a really nice 3 piece auger set, they look very well made and come in a nice canvas roll up case that makes storage easy. You get a 1/2 inch 3/4 in. and 1 in. Made exclusively for use in wood even if there’s nails in it. The shanks are even strong enough that you can use them with your impact wrench. The 18 inch length makes them convenient for drilling deep holes or going thru any thick, sill plate, rafter, etc… They are sharp and cut quick and will help speed your day along…

    These bits are beasts, for drilling serious holes. The bits easily chew through wood while leaving a nice clean entry and exit hole (assuming you use a backer board). The bits feel very well build and have a satisfying solid feel to them. With the screw tip front they pull themselves through the wood easily. I did have a bit of an issue with wood splitting but after drilling a small (1/8″) pilot hole first the splitting stopped.
